Thomas Enhco was born in Paris in 1988 and started playing
the violin at age three and the piano at age six, studying
classical and jazz styles on both instruments. At age twelve,
Thomas quit school to study classical piano and at age
seventeen entered the Paris Conservatory to study jazz and
improvisation. After a couple of CD’s he composed his first film
score Aux Arts, Citoyens! and the same year toured France
and Japan with his trio and won two major French music
awards. In 2011, the pianist toured the world playing 130
concerts in 14 countries and 4 continents and composed the
original film score for the movie Les Cinq Parties du Monde.
Last year he recorded a trio album with the distinguished Jack
DeJohnette and John Patitucci in New York City. His latest recording
Fireflies was released on October 2012 and features the trio he
will be touring the Jazz Festivals with, Canadian bass player
Chris Jennings and Belgian drummer Nicolas Charlier. This latest recording reveals a strong personal direction distinctive in Thomas
Enhco’s composition: entirely original music, a powerful lyricism
combined with subtle narrative and depth. This is music that
explores the world between jazz and classical music. Completely
contemporary while remaining accessible and intensely musical.
Over the past few years, the Saturday afternoon jazz jam has grown into one of
the popular events at JazzFest; for players and audience members alike. Nothing
more completely embodies the traditional nature of jazz than players getting
together and playing just for the fun of it, trying out their chops, and seeing how
they make it in a real live setting.
Whether you’re a high-school student or a seasoned veteran, you are welcome to
come out and participate. A rhythm section will be on hand, and we’re giving you
the chance to try out those tunes you’ve been working on in the basement!
And who knows. Some years we get drop-ins from visiting JazzFest performers,
resulting in some exciting combinations of visiting and local players having some
fun with the music!
Bring your own charts, or play by ear.
